What is a rapid antigen test & how is a PCR test different?
A rapid antigen test is a Covid test that produces results within a matter of minutes. The process is incredibly simple; in the case of our test, it only requires a nasal swab.
There is also the option to do a PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction) test, which is more detailed and produces a more reliable result. It does this through analysing the viral RNA (ribonucleic acid) that is found in your cells. How quickly the results come back depends on the laboratory and where you have it done.
We offer PCR testing with 24-48 hour results; you can find out more here:
Why do I need rapid antigen day 2 testing in Northampton when I return to the UK?
Day 2 testing in Northampton is included within the Government’s travel guidance for coming back to England. If you are fully vaccinated, you must take a test on day 2 after returning to the UK. You are also required to fill out a passenger locator form. However, you do not need to isolate unless your result is positive. If your result is positive, you should follow up-to-date guidance with regards to self-isolation and testing. If you are not fully vaccinated, you must take a day 2 and day 8 test upon your return.
Some countries also now accept rapid antigen tests as proof of a negative result on entry.
